Sambalpur University, Burla turns another Osmania Varsity

Following is a report from http://www.odishatoday.com:

Taking clue from their counterparts in Osmania University in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the epic centre of Telengana movement, students of Sambalpur University here, are demanding a separate Koshal State from Orissa.

The students boycotted classes and sat in dharna with placards in the hands demanding a separate State. “All the successive State Governments have been showing step motherly attitude to this part and separate State is the only solution for development of western Orissa,” said general secretary of the Koshal Students Organisation Jayadev Kar.

“Assurances were given to people of this vast region when Orissa came into being in 1936. But this region was intentionally kept neglected,” alleged the Sambalpur University Students Union president Padmanav Mishra.

“We will spread this as people’s movement in all parts of western Orissa,” Mishra said.

Leaders and students demand formation of ‘Koshal’ state

Following report and photo is taken from http://www.orissatv.com:

Taking a cue from Telangana, leaders and students in the western Orissa have demanded formation of ‘Koshal’ state, comprising of as many as ten western districts.

A number of students of the Sambalpur University on Tuesday boycotted classes and staged demonstration in front of the varsity demanding bifurcation of Orissa.

“We want a separate statehood status for Koshal. Else, we will intensify our stir,” Padmanabh, a student leader of Sambalpur University said.

“Our region has been neglected by the government. So we want formation of a separate state for progress,” another student, Jayadeb Kar said.

It may be noted that students in Bolangir had also hit the street with the same demand on Monday. Holding banners and placards, the sloganeering students pitched for ‘Koshal’ state.

Koshal Kranti Dal that has been spearheading the movement for a separate state “Koshal”, said that its delegate would meet the Prime Minister to put forth the demand.

“Soon, our delegate would meet the Prime Minister and other Central leaders to apprise them of our demand of a separate state by carving out at least 10 districts out of Orissa,” Pramod Mishra, the president of Koshal Kranti Dal, said.

The activists of the Dal have also threatened to stage demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan on December 23. Various lawyers’ bodies of western Orissa have also thrown their lot behind the movement of the Koshal Kranti Dal, sources said.
