Santipalli of Ganjam district to have rail wagon factory

Following report is from the Pioneer:

The railway authorities after inspecting number of places in KBK districts and not finding them suitable have identified Santipalli at Berhampur in Ganjam district to set up the proposed rail wagon factory.

According to sources, a rail wagon factory is to be set up in KBK districts of Odisha as per the 2010-2011 Railway Budget. Accordingly, the railway authorities visited Kalahandi, Kesinga, Narla Road, Lanjigarh Road, and Bhawanipatna Railway Station area to find out 100 acres of land adjacent to the rail track and submit a feasible report to the Government of Odisha for acquisition of land. However, the railway administration could not find a suitable place for the purpose and moved to coastal districts for feasible locations for wagon factory.

The Ganjam district administration and rail officers made a joint inspection in the district and found a place at Santipalli near Jagannathpur Railway Station of Berhampur. The State Government has approved to provide the 100 acre of land at Santipalli and the proposal has been sent to Railway Ministry, for their final consent for further plan of action. The project would be taken up in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee says wagon factories in underdeveloped areas like Kalahandi will bring industrial boom in India

Following is a report by IANS taken from

Kolkata: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said the railways will usher in an industrial boom in the country as her ministry is to set up 20 new industries in the next one year.

‘We will set up 20 more heavy industries like wagon factories in underdeveloped areas of the country like Kalahandi in Orrisa, in Telangana (in Andhra Pradesh) and in Junglemahal (Maoists affected area),’ said Banerjee, while addressing a function to commence the work for the Dedicated Eastern freight Corridor at Dankuni.

She also urged the industrialists to come and join hands with the railways and make new initiatives in private-public-partnership mode.

‘Railways have land and we want investment. If you come, it will not be a problem. We have business and package ready in our hands,’ said Banerjee.

‘Recently, we have changed our policy and made IT industrialist friendly. So if any person is interested, he will not have to invest a single paisa on survey or for preparing project reports. We have railway engineers and the investor will have his share on his investment,’ said Banerjee.

She said the Eastern Corridor will connect Ludhiana to Sonnagar via Ambala, Saharanpur, Khurja, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Mughalsarai and Dankuni near Kolkata where there will be a new freight terminal.

‘Eastern Freight Corridor will usher in a new era in industrialisation and Dankuni will be turned into an industrial town in future as two industries and a professional training institute will come up in the area,’ said the railway minister.

Following report is from The Pioneer:

Expressing his willingness to set up the rail wagon factory in Kalahandi district as per the proposal of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday assured a representative group of senior citizens of the district that he would talk to Banerjee to this effect soon.

A eight-member representative group headed by Labour and Employment Minister Puspendra Singh Deo and former Minister Balabhadra Majhi met Chief Minister at his Secretariat chamber. The group informed the Chief Minister about the decision of Railway Minister to set up a rail wagon industry either in Bhubaneswar or in Kalahandi.

They requested Patnaik to set up the proposed industry in Kalahandi district as it is not only a backward region but also a central place of backward KBK region. They said the proposed factory if set up in the district, it would certainly help bring development in the said region.

They also suggested the Chief Minister that the said project should be set up at Chapatkhanda of the district. They said there would be no land acquisition problem if the project comes up there.

Chief Minister agreed to their proposal and assured them that he would soon talk to Banerjee to this effect.

The group also informed that they would submit memorandum on the subject to Prime Minister Manmohan Sing, Railway Minister Banerjee and Loksabha Speaker Meira Kumar on August 18. Other members of the group include Bishnu Gahir, Jawahar Biswal, Arjuna Chand, Ashok Agrawal, Sumanta Pujari and Damodar Mishra.
