Following is a report from The Pioneer:

If a proposal of the State Assembly’s Standing Committee on health is ever implemented, there is certainly every point for the people of western Odisha to rejoice.

Committee chairman Bishnu Charan Das on Friday stated that there would be a separate drive for recruitment of doctors for various posts at the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla since doctors from Cuttack and Berhampur Medical Colleges are reluctant to come over here even after their transfer.

“This can only solve the problems of this medial college to a large extent and the years-long dissatisfaction of the people here could be alleviated,” Das said while talking to mediapersons during a review meeting here in the presence of all concerned officers of the district and the Chief District Medical Officer of Sambalpur and Superintendent of VSS Medical College and Hospital.

The Standing Committee visited the medical college to take stock of the situation in the western Odisha’s premier health institute. It also reviewed the situations in the PHCs and CHCs of the district. The CDMO) gave a detailed picture of the situation, particularly the vacancy position in the posts of specialists and medical officers.

“Proposals for various developmental works in different departments will be placed before the Government,” Das said. The drainage is another major concern here,” he admitted. He instructed the district administration to remove encroachments in and around the hospital and vacate the Principal’s quarters now under occupation of an NGO
